Artistic Metamorphosis: Unlocking the Worlds of Sophia Zhong Artistic Metamorphosis: Unlocking the Worlds of Sophia Zhong June 12, 2026 – July 12, 2026 Opening Reception: June 12, 2026, 17:00–19:00 Venue: AOMO Gallery Curator: Ruowei Chen, Yanbei “I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way – things I had no words for.” – Georgia O’Keeffe “Artistic Metamorphosis” marks a vital milestone in the creative trajectory of Sophia Zhong. Staged at the threshold of her high school graduation, as this solo retrospective is far more than a visual chronicle of coming-of-age; it is a celebration and exploration of Sophia’s continued artistic evolution as a “world observer”, “world builder”, injecting her love and joy found in the craft into her artworks. The exhibition is woven around the core thread of transformation, mapping her growth across three conceptual dimensions. The viewer is guided through a time machine-like journey; through Sophia’s artworks from initial inspirations of childhood toys, games and Chinese tales documented by whimsical pencil sketches to intricate etchings and paintings in Area A, the sense of playfulness continuously bleeding into the dense composition of her exciting, self-constructed worlds filled with lively character interactions and comedic situations in Area B, this retrospective of which concludes in Area C, a display of Sophia’s interaction with the wider artistic world, from multimedia experimentation to collaborations with others, such as surrealist master Cruzeiro Seixas, across her artistic journey. By translating private childhood memories and everyday observations into a universal, shared artistic language, “Artistic Metamorphosis” proves Sophia’s resilience, conceptual rigor, and visionary capacity as an emerging artist. It is a heartfelt look back at where she came from, and a brilliant starting block for her leap into the future art world.
Yanbei Explores New Creative Ideas in Ai Weiwei’s Art Exhibition “Don Quixote”

Yanbei Explores New Creative Ideas in Ai Weiwei’s Art Exhibition “Don Quixote” In November 2024, artist Yanbei from Aomo Gallery traveled to León, Spain, to attend Ai Weiwei’s art exhibition Don Quixote. This exhibition showcases some of Ai’s most significant works in recent years, addressing themes of identity, history, and social issues. During the event, Yan Bei and Ai Weiwei engaged in in-depth discussions about their creative processes and artistic philosophies. One of the most striking pieces in the exhibition is The Last Supper, recreated using LEGO bricks. Inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s masterpiece, Ai Weiwei transforms the iconic religious painting into a pixelated mosaic, using LEGO as a contemporary medium. The pink-toned background disrupts the solemnity of the original composition, offering a fresh visual interpretation. Through this work, Ai Weiwei explores themes of collective faith and individual identity while challenging conventional notions of historical art. After viewing the exhibition, Yanbei remarked that Ai Weiwei’s work is not just about reconstructing classics but about critically engaging with social issues. His innovative use of materials and visual language allows viewers to rediscover familiar images with new meanings. This exchange of artistic ideas has also prompted Yanbei to reflect on the direction of their own creative work. The exhibition in León will run until February 2025, offering audiences a profound artistic journey through history, contemporary issues, and personal expression.

Portuguese Landscapes Through the Eyes of Chinese Artists

Portuguese Landscapes Through the Eyes of Chinese Artists Portugal, a land rich in history and charm, has long captivated artists from around the world with its unique culture and enchanting landscapes. Here, ancient cobblestone streets intertwine with majestic coastlines, and tradition coexists harmoniously with modernity, offering boundless inspiration for artistic creation. The “Portuguese Landscapes Through the Eyes of Chinese Artists” exhibition is a testament to this cultural allure and a product of deep dialogue between Chinese artists and the land of Portugal. This exhibition brings together the works of seven Chinese artists, each hailing from diverse cultural backgrounds and artistic traditions. Despite their differences, they share a common language—painting—through which they present their perspectives on Portugal. These works are not merely representations of Portuguese scenery but are also profound reflections on the fusion of their own cultures with that of Portugal. In this exhibition, viewers will witness how each artist, through their unique perspective and style, captures the essence of Portugal. Some pieces depict the serene charm of Lisbon’s ancient streets, while others illustrate the vibrant activity along the banks of the Douro River in Porto. Some artworks showcase the majestic Atlantic coastlines through the play of light and shadow, while others reveal the richness and depth of Portuguese culture through bold use of color. These paintings are more than artistic creations; they are personal records of the artists’ experiences, travels, and meditations in Portugal. Behind each work lies the artists’ admiration and love for Portugal, as well as their profound understanding of the cultural exchange between China and Portugal. Through their brushes, they transcend language and cultural barriers, building a bridge that connects East and West through art. In their eyes, Portugal is not just a geographical space but a repository of emotions and a symbol of cultural exchange. This intercultural dialogue imbues the exhibition with a unique significance. It offers us a chance to see how Chinese artists interpret Portugal, while also prompting deeper reflection on the resonance and understanding between different cultures. In today’s globalized world, art has become a vital link that connects diverse cultures and fosters mutual understanding. This exhibition is a vivid expression of that connection. I hope that through this exhibition, viewers will appreciate the unique perspectives and deep emotions that these seven Chinese artists bring to their portrayal of Portugal. Furthermore, I hope this exhibition will further enhance cultural exchange between China and Portugal, injecting new vitality into the artistic development of both nations. Lastly, I extend my gratitude to all the artists involved in this exhibition. It is your effort and talent that allow us to witness this artistic feast that bridges East and West. — Yanbei Opening Date 20th September 202418:00-21:00 Exhibition during 20 September 2024 to 20 October 202414:00 – 18:00 Please contact us to schedule a guided visit.Time Slots:14:00 – 15:30 | 16:00 – 17:30 Media Sina News Sohu News
